Are The Boot Camps Abusive?
Abuse is a word that is truly over used in today's society. We recently talked with a father who was charged with abuse after he spanked his son and sent him to his room. The boy screamed out the window for the entire neighborhood to hear, "call for help I'm being abused." Child Protective Services showed up, took the boy and his sister, and Father was charged with abuse.
Please don't interpret what we are saying to mean that we condone any form of abuse because we don't. We feel that a parent should have the right to raise a child the best way they can, without having interference from any government agency. If a child is being neglected, beaten, unfed, or uncared for, the situation should definitely be monitored. We don't believe that a spanking from a concerned parent is abuse. That having been said, the Boot Camps we work with do not spank or hit the children. They may have a drill instructor in their face but they will not be physically harmed. Many parents we talk to admit that if they had not received structure and discipline while they were growing up, they would definitely not have been able to accomplish what they have in their lives.
Christian Teachings
Most of the Boot Camps we work with are Christian based. With the values taught in the Bible accompanied by the discipline of the instructors, most of the youth enrolled are receiving the help they need. Many of the youth will say after having attended a Christian Boot Camp that their life was literally saved. In many instances the youth are doing much worse than their parents could even imagine. Typically if a teen is admitting to having used marijuana once or twice they are usually smoking it on a regular basis. We have worked with parents who found after their teen was enrolled in a Boot Camp, that their teen was actually selling pot to their friends to pay for their own drugs.
