Boarding Schools

Boarding schools have existed for as long as their have been public schools. Some parents seek out and send their over achieving youth to boarding schools to prepare them to be accepted into and Ivy League or a prestigious college. Boarding schools of this nature are different than the boarding school being sought by a parent visiting our site. Some parents send their children to boarding schools to place them in an environment away from home that will basically raise their child for them.

The majority of calls we field every day are from parents with defiant teens that are seeking placement in a restrictive highly structured school for an unruly child in need of an education and discipline. There are boarding schools in virtually every state of the country and also several options out of the country if you are seeking a foreign experience for your child. We have a list of schools that we have prescreened to assist you in your search for the most appropriate placement for your youth.

Teen Boarding Schools

Teen boarding schools are synonymous with troubled teen boarding schools and boarding schools for defiant children. Many of the schools established for out of control teens have a minimum age limit. The majority of the teen boarding schools will take a youth as young as 12 years of age. The maximum age a school can keep a youth against her or his will is usually until18 years of age. The maximum age can vary from state to state depending on the laws established. The maximum age nationwide to hold a youth against their will is 18 years of age. There are exceptions to this rule if the youth is court ordered, or if he or she is proven to be incapable of making his or her own decisions. The later must be proven in a court of law and is not an easy thing to do. There are also boarding schools for pre-teens that are an option for younger students. The pre-teen schools are usually for non-defiant youth, but as mentioned earlier it can be for students with parents that do not have time for them, or students that are seeking more from their educational experience.

Alternative Schools

Alternative schools are synonymous with boarding schools for troubled teens, troubled teen boarding schools, and usually refer to options for parents with unruly out of control children. Alternative schools would obviously indicate that they are an alternative to traditional or public schools. Resource schools can also be referred to as alternative school. A resource school or resource class usually is established to help a child that is not fitting into a regular classroom setting. Some schools have a resource program on location while others send their defiant students to a special resource or alternative school at a different location. Alternative schools can also include the following types of placement, troubled teen boarding schools, boot camps for troubled teens, schools for troubled teens, programs for troubled teens, boarding schools for troubled teens, camps for troubled teens, boot camps, juvenile boot camps, and teen boot camps. If you would like help finding any of these types of placement options we can help you weave through this process.

Christian Boarding School

Christian boarding schools are of two different types also. There are Christian boarding schools that will take troubled teens and adolescents, and those that won't. There are Christian boarding schools that will take and hold a child against their will, and those that won't. When dealing with a troubled teen the obvious choice is going to be a Christian boarding school that will accept a defiant unruly child. The Christian boarding school will usually be centered on the Bible with God being one of the major focuses and a main part of the healing process. A child raised in a Christian home that has gone astray will usually do better in a Christian boarding school. As they use principles they were raised with, it will be helpful to use with directing them back to a more acceptable way of life. Bible study is usually required, and church attendance is also a main part of the Christian boarding school. Some schools are non denominational, and some are tied to a specific religion. If you have concerns about what will be taught it is good to speak directly with the program director or minister. One advantage of a Christian boarding school is the cost. The tuition at a Christian boarding school is usually less than other types of boarding schools, because of the tax status of the school. Like any other type of placement not all Christian boarding schools are good, with having had some problems in the past. You should be as careful in your search for this type of school as you are in any other type of alternative school.

Private School

Private schools come in many types' lengths and prices. Most of the schools we work with are private. A private school simply means a school that is not a public or state run school, but is run by a private party. Private schools can include, boot camps, boarding schools, troubled teen boarding schools, military schools, residential treatment centers, Christian boarding schools, wilderness camps, juvenile boot camps, and most any of the schools discussed as options on this site, would be considered a private school.

Private schools for troubled teens range in price from $1,800 a month up to $8,000 per month. Some charge by the day, while others have you pay by the month or even the quarter. Most private schools have some type of funding vehicle to assist you with your financial needs in placing your child. Most private schools have academic accreditations which allow your child to return home having accelerated in their academic endeavors. Wilderness camps and most short term programs usually will not have any type of academic work, simply because the students stay is not long enough to establish an education plan. Private schools may even receive accreditation through the local school district where the program or school is located.

Some people feel that public schools have lost the ability to effectively educate their children. It would be unfair to lump all public schools into one category. Some schools have found ways to deal with the troubled teen, and have had great results. Some people feel that private schools have to perform, or they will not stay in business. Like any business a private school must have students to stay alive. If a school does a poor job, they usually will not be around very long. If you believe this theory, then a private school that has good references would probably be a good choice for you. There are many private schools to choose from, and we would be happy to assist you in your search for this type of placement.
